Forest History Center
is offering several tours on the history of the Mississippi River during September and October at the center, 2609 County Road 76.
Mississippi River Pontoon Tours will run at noon and 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 18. Tickets cost $25 per person.
“Hop aboard a pontoon and cruise the mighty Mississippi as you hear captivating tales of the river’s role in shaping local culture and lives,” a release said.
Attendees will learn how the Mississippi helped fuel the nation’s growth.
Great Northern Forest History Tours will be held at 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 18. Tickets cost $25. Admission is free for ages five and under.
“Climb aboard for a 60-minute guided tour exploring the rich history of the Mississippi River region of Grand Rapids,” the release said. “From Native communities and early settlers to lumberjacks, homesteaders, and today’s forest stewards, you’ll discover how people have shaped, and been shaped by, this remarkable landscape.”
Draft Horse Experiences are available at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 27.
Participants will help groom, harness and prep the draft horse team before enjoying a scenic trolley ride through the trails. Staff will be there to share insights and answer questions.
The Minnesota Historical Society will provide free admission to the Forest History Center and other select sites around the state on Saturday, Sept. 20, the release said.
Regular admission costs $15 for adults; $12 for seniors, veterans, active military and college students; and $8 for children ages 5-17. Minnesota Historical Society members, children ages 4 and under, Blue Star families and Museums for All participants receive free admission.
